Audra Mcdonald is a standout in the breadth of her talent and her versatility as a singer and actor. Audra McDonald who has won the prestigious six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -- America's highest honour for excellence in this area. A luminous singer with an unparalleled talent for dramatically telling the truth, Ms. O'Connor can be found on Broadway and on the stage for opera as well as on television. In addition to her work in the theater she also enjoys an impressive career as an international music and concert performer. McDonald was raised within Fresno California by her musical parents. They also studied classical singing at Juilliard School, New York. A year after graduating McDonald won an award for the Tony Award Best Performance for an Actress in Musical Lead in Carousel at Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances on the Broadway premier of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the show Ragtime (1998) giving her an unheard of number of Tony Awards before the age of thirty. In 2004, she was in the running to win her 4th Tony Award. She was in the role of A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her 5th Tony and first for the category of Leading Actress were won by her role as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The Tony Awards' most decorated performer, she had the chance to make Broadway history when she was awarded the sixth Tony Award portraying Billie Holiday as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. This role also provided the platform to make her Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. As well as making history with the most performances that an actor has won in a competition she was also the first to win awards across all four categories. McDonald has also been featured for theatre shows such as The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009); this is her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park d but Shuffle Along Or the Making of the Musical Sense of 1921, and all That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (192019) and Ohio State Murders (2023) The Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years that initially introduced McDonald to the television audience as a dramatic actress. She went on to co-star alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the lauded 1999 remake by ABC and Disney of Annie as well as in 2000, she was a frequent guest in NBC's smash series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's Emmy-nominated performance as Emma Thompson on Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was directed by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to television networks was in 2003, when she starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. The Bedford Diaries, a WB television show that premiered in 2006. Then she had a recurring part on NBC's Kidnapped within the next year. In 2016, McDonald was nominated for an additional Emmy award for her role on HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar Restaurant & Grill, a movie-special. McDonald starred along with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama produced with Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald, who first appeared in The Good Wife, a CBS Legal drama The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick between 2009 and 2018. She reprised her characters (now known as Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight as the Paramount+ season regular. McDonald has been nominated for Three Critics Choice Award awards. The actress also appeared on Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
